How Patient Experiences work

On Materia+, patient reviews are known as experiences. Patients can share their experience with a provider and select either "Recommended" or "It Isn’t for Me" when sharing their experience. If the provider has enabled the option, the patient can additionally provide a written review.

The choice to move away from a star rating system is aimed at shielding providers from the subjective biases often associated with star reviews.

When can patients leave an experience?

Only patients that have booked and completed two appointments with you can leave you with an experience.

Patients get a notification on their patient dashboard to post an experience, which they can make either public or private.

How do experiences get posted?

Following two Materia+ appointments with a provider, we solicit feedback from patients regarding their experience. We carefully manage our reviews to create a trustworthy, dependable, and representative review system that benefits both patients and providers.

We have a team dedicated to ensuring that all reviews (including Materia+ Patient Reviews) are in compliance with our guidelines. We will remove any reviews that contain the following:

  • Profanity: Anything profane, vulgar, or otherwise offensive.
  • Personal information: We take privacy seriously! We won’t tolerate reviews that include personally identifiable information such as a patient’s full name, phone number, or email address.
  • Pricing specifics: These comments tend to reflect more on insurance providers than healthcare providers.
  • Accuracy of treatment or diagnosis: We don’t allow claims about the accuracy of a provider's treatment and diagnosis, because they are factual matters that we cannot verify.
  • Promotional content: We want our reviews to be as relevant as possible, so we don’t allow reviews that promote an unrelated website, product, topic, or other item that is unrelated to the patient experience.

How do I know which patient wrote each experience?

By default, all experiences are kept anonymous to maintain an ethical review system free from bias.

Does Materia+ moderate provider reviews?

Yes, we have a dedicated team responsible for ensuring that all reviews, including Materia+ Patient Reviews, adhere to our guidelines.
